After nearly a day of ridiculous live streaming a Dunkirk beach on its Facebook page, Warner Bros and Chris Nolan have finally debuted the new trailer for Dunkirk. Take a look.
Well, that is one beautiful looking movie. You could never try to claim that a Nolan movie looked bad, and we’re seeing a lot of interesting and devastating imagery here. That shot of the soldier pushing away the dead body in the water is chilling.
I’m not sure this trailer is doing anything for me. It looks wildly depressing, like these kids are going to get picked off slowly as the movie moves along. The trailer’s title cards talk about how hope is a weapon and survival is victory, but we don’t get any hint or clue about how the movie is going to address that.
I mean, there is Mark Rylance and the rest of the civilian boat owners. That looks like hope. And there’s no way the movie doesn’t try to sell the “Dunkirk Spirit” that helped lift British people in their darkest hour. But this trailer doesn’t do a good job of showing it off.
